First Published Short Story

I have spectacular news!

My first short story is going to be published next semester!

About a month back, I took a chance and submitted my short story “75.22” – a story about a woman who catches and harnesses the wishing power of a falling star, bottles it, and sells it. It covered three days and the different customers she encountered. While there was no extreme outer conflict except how my main character felt about the customers, there was much internal conflict and overcoming grief. I felt especially connected with this story because it was one of the first I wrote this semester, and one that I worked on editing exponentially to get it ready for submissions.

Two days ago, I recieved an email that it had been accepted by Ball State University’s Broken Plate literary magazine! It will be published next semester (Spring 2019). I am incredibly grateful and so enthused. I feel like this was a good sign that what I am writing does interest people, and invigorates me to keep improving my writing skills. I have numerous other stories that I am writing and editing to prepare to submit to other literary magazines such as Pseudo Pod, The Dark, Strange Horizons, Lightspeed Magazine, and Locus Magazine. All are science fiction and/or fantasy related – precisely my style!

On a different note, I am also beginning my internship search once again for Summer 2019. I won’t be going as far as Georgia this time, and I actually am considering veering in another field direction. I’d like to improve upon my digital medias minor! So, I’ve begun looking at Social Media internships, Graphic Design internships, and many others in that field. Digital Medias was once just a fall-back plan, but I’m starting to embrace the minor more now. I look around and realize that I can combine my writing into a form of advertising, and convey my messages through a graphic design process.

I am still searching in the realm of newspapers and magazines as well, but the place where I plan to live has only so much. I also am trying to stay within a relatively easy walking distance and not have to drive thirty minutes. However, I am so excited to see where the road takes me.
