Tale of Internships & Literary Progress

Hello, hello! It’s been a couple months since junior year began, and I have been rather busy! To put it simply, I am writing a LOT. Between my screenwriting class, poetry class, and fiction class, as well as writing for the Ball Bearings Magazine here at campus, I am always writing something. Course, I don’t just write academically – I’ve been doing my best to stay active on writing things I genuinely enjoy.

So far, for a brief update, my first Ball Bearings article will be online soon, so I will find a way to post that here when it is up. I am very excited to see it through to publication! I have picked up a second article which will be published sometime in either December or January, focusing on “old-fashioned trends coming back.” Younger generations referring back to their grandparents’ generation for relaxing hobbies and activities, music (vinyls), etc. I’ve enjoyed my time learning the journalistic style of writing, and I look forward to continuing to learn it.

I am also beginning my search for an internship for Summer 2019, specifically in Indianapolis! I am researching magazines such as the Indianapolis Monthly or Saturday Evening Post. But I am also looking into publishing houses in Indy that I could try and get an internship with. I want to use my writing more substantially this summer and build my resume doing something I love. Very soon I will begin sending resumes and my own works to these companies and see what happens!

Additionally, I’ve maintained my determination to continue “fun writing.” The stories I am writing are currently short stories. I’ve begun discussing with my fiction writing professor (who is a published author herself) about the publishing process. She is helping me learn the ropes and wiggle my way into the writing scene with literary magazines. It’s going to be a long and laborious process, but I am so excited to have a better understanding of where to begin.
