Glimmer Glass Soundscape

Glimmer Glass by John Ottis Adams

This is a soundscape that I created for my final in Digital Sound Design. I enjoyed creating a soundscape out of random sounds, so I decided to create one for a fixed topic. And working in an art museum, there was plenty of inspiration that I passed every day. So, with plenty of searching and consideration, I chose Glimmer Glass by John Ottis Adams!

The sounds used in this soundscape are very nature-centered to fit the landscape painting. When viewing Glimmer Glass, my eyes are drawn to colors such as the muted but golden orange of the leaves. In my mind, I envisioned those leaves being plucked from the limbs by the trees and fluttering down, a gentle breeze guiding it along. The water is gushing in my ears, despite the tranquil aura emanated from the painting. I decided to bring this sound into the soundscape with the images of animals pushing through it.

Most of the sounds are original, though there are some royalty free sounds, such as the bird chirps in the opening and the harp. Gathering some of the nature sounds such as the birds and the splashing sounds were difficult but worth it when listening to the finished product.

In my previous Coffeeshop Soundscape, I wanted to tell a story. With this soundscape, I let the forest speak through the sounds. There is no one story available, but an abundance of possibilities. Tell me, what stories come to your mind as you hear the harp, the gushing water, the birds chirping loudly? Drop them in the comments below! 🙂
